Why shouldn't you use plastic?

Not to mention how catastrophic single-use plastic is for the environment (we’ll talk about that in another article), there are good reasons why you shouldn’t use plastic, and why it has a negative impact on our health.

A matter hard to avoid:

It is present in almost all the objects and products that we use every day: in our clothes, in personal hygiene items, cleaning products and in the storage or wrapping of our food We will focus specifically on the latter, as we are exposed to these chemicals more than we realize. This affects everyone, including those who do not usually consume packaged products, because its use is present in the production chains of all industries.

Why you shouldn’t use plastic and its effects on health

Plastic containers are made from refined crude oil and various substances, including BPA (bisphenol-A) that gives it durability and flexibility properties. According to various studies carried out over the years, it has been concluded that among the effects of repeated exposure to BPA are the interruption of the development of reproductive functions because this compound is an endocrine disruptor, and also is associated with problems of serious health conditions such as diabetes and heart or liver disease.

So, how can we replace plastic?

If we are realistic, it is very difficult to eliminate all the contact we have with plastic, of whatever kind: it is not only practical but in some situations it is irreplaceable, but in many cases we can take action to limit this contact. One of the most important reasons why you should not use plastic is that today it is easy to find safer options not only for our health but also for the environment.
In the case of cosmetics and cleaning, there is a wide variety of products with ecological components that are marketed in safe and refillable containers. As with dressing, it is possible to find 100% natural materials that are much better when in contact with our skin.

An ecological alternative to plastic

In the kitchen, although plastic plays a very useful role, it is important that we replace it when possible and mainly not use it to cook or heat food. When it comes to storing food, instead of using containers with these components, choose ceramic or glass ones, combining them with natural alternatives to plastic film or silver foil like our reusable beeswax wraps. Made with natural ingredients (beeswax, pine resin and jojoba oil) you can preserve your food, reducing your exposure to harmful chemicals.

Avoiding plastics has a huge positive effect not only on our health and that of those around us, but especially on the environment. Do you think these are good reasons why you shouldn’t use plastic? You can share your opinions about this topic and suggest some other replacement for these harmful materials.
